The Spiritual Gift of Music

Music is a true gift to the spirituality of mankind. It can bring a link between ourselves and the Source of All That Is. It uses the senses of hearing, of seeing, of using the brain and voice, of feeling, of emotion, of movement within and physically, and no matter what the taste, it can touch us in a way that nothing else does. Words. Lyrics. Sound. Music. They all speak.

A single note held by a voice, the sound of an instrument, a harmony, an orchestra, one sung word – any one of these can touch us and perhaps even bring us to tears of appreciation and joy, alone or collectively in a group. If experienced with thousands of other people, this can be a phenomenal experience.

I do of course recognise that at times, music can evoke a sad or distressing memory, but this post focuses on ‘good vibrations’ (thank you Beach Boys!) of music and love and inspiration, and how it all works.

Questions & Answers
Why is this I ask? Why does music touch us in the way it does?  Is it because music has come from the soul? From that most beautiful place, the place of love and connection to the Source of Love and Light, that deep place within that inspires inspiration and creativity?

It can feel heavenly on occasions. When music speaks to the heart, the heart sings. But what moves us? What touches us? What wakens us? What did the writer of that music feel when they wrote it?

As Johnny Nash sang, ‘There are more questions than answers.’

Music can and does touch us – heart and soul.
So many beautiful words and songs have been written about Love. It’s what we feel, it connects us to the songwriter/s, it connects us to ourselves, it connects us to others, it connects us to each other, it connects us to Source.

To write – purely and simply, to write.  How blessed they all are, these very special people who can express themselves through their music and share it with us. And how blessed we all are to hear it and appreciate it – every note and harmony known and sung every time, over and over. To perfection (or so we may think!).

So I say, ‘Thank you for the Music’ (Abba).

Other ‘Good Vibrational’ Examples

  • The Doobie Brothers: ‘Without Love, Where Would You Be Now?’ (Long Train Runnin’)
  • The Beatles: ‘All you Need is Love’
  • The mighty John Lennon: ‘Imagine’

And to illustrate my point even further, ‘I write the Songs’ by Barry Manilow says it all!

Music is magic. Music can be a healer.
Music is a true gift to the spirituality of mankind.
In the words of the magnificent William Shakespeare, “If music be the food of love, play on, give me excess of it …. it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound that breathes upon a bank of violets”.
